Our large, screened-in back porch might just be the best room in the house. It has a gorgeous view of the back pasture where our neighbors’ horses graze and is perfect for entertaining, on the fly meetups with friends, and messy craft projects with the kids. For little ones, it’s nice to have a place that feels like being outside but can keep them contained at the same time.
Our old farmhouse style dining table sits out here now and is well used for meals on the porch with friends and family. We also use it when we want to do some work (from home) outside or if the kids want to play with something where they need a large table space. Benches on each side with chairs at ends of the table provide casual seating.
At one end of the porch is our DIY wood pallet potting bench that we use for storage and sometimes as a bar for entertaining.
The opposite end of the porch holds a seating area consisting of retro metal porch furniture we had at our old house. The hammock is new and a fun addition!
We used an old sideboard from our previous house for additional storage and serving space.
Of course, the porch holds a lot of things we simply don’t have room for elsewhere like bikes, outdoor sports equipment, gardening gear, recycling bins, and some fun antique pieces. The space is very much a working, functional porch rather than just another space for entertaining.
We installed neutral colored roll-up shades to help control the heat of the late afternoon, but sometimes I hate to spoil this beautiful view.
