This Valentine’s Day we decided to make some treats for the birdies…..
…in the form of bird seed hearts!!
This process is very simple and I got the recipe from the blog Bargain Hoot. Simply heat some gelatin with 1/4 cup water until dissolved, add the bird seed and mix. Then push into heart-shaped molds (I used cookie cutters) and press string into the hearts. Pop in the freezer for a few hours until hardened. Then let dry for 2-3 days, flipping each side over so that they are set.
Eat up, little birdies!
Be sure to show some love to all creatures great and small this Valentine’s day!
xoxo,

Those are adorable. Weirdly, I recently learned that birds don't like the round seeds, but the chickens love them! They run to the bird seed every day to scrounge around for everything that's left. BTY, the commenter won't let me comment with typepad. Apparently, it's been doing that to a lot of google accounts lately.

What a great idea! My mom would love this! She has tons of birds at her house ๐ I think I might have to give it a try, although she probably won't get it until this weekend…maybe I will do 4 leaf clovers for st. patty's day ๐ Thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, for the most part the laundry soap works on getting out stains. But, I also hang my laundry outside 3 seasons out of the year which I am sure helps on the staining as well ๐ There was a great post over at http://simpleorganic.net on homemade stain removers today, you should check it out!

Question: Do these hold their shape? I have seen some that only hold their shape in very cold areas. Living in the South, we might think it is cold here…but comparatively, it really isn't. Thanks.

Hi Gina, yes I found these held their shape well. Of course, our birds gobbled them up in no time once they were hanging on the tree so they didn't have many days to weather outside before they were gone!
